Are Hubcaps Associated With A Particular Brand Of Car Or Are They All General?

Are Hubcaps Associated With A Particular Brand Of Car Or Are They All General?

There are some people out there who want to know if hubcaps are associated with a particular brand of car or are they all general. The reason for this is because some people have particular types of cars that they require hubcaps for, and they do not want to make the mistake of putting nonspecialized hubcaps on them.

I would say that there are hubcaps designed to be general, meaning you can put them on just about any brand of car you can think of. However, being able to get hubcaps made specifically for your car is beneficial. You can do this quite easily, whenever you decide to purchase a hubcap it is going to bear the trademark or symbol of the maker. This symbol or trademark can come from either the maker of the automobile or the maker of the hubcap.
Whenever you decide to go the route of getting hubcaps made by someone other than the brand of your car, you must be especially careful. Sometimes you may get hubcaps that you have heard about or you have seen others with. These hubcaps look attractive at the time on someone else's car and you may believe they can fit appropriately to your car.
The problem is that once they are put on your car they may not have the look you expected them to. The reason will be because your car requires hubcaps that are more specialized towards your particular brand. You do not have to let this prevent you from shopping around though. If you have seen hubcaps that are built for various types of cars, then you simply need to make sure the hubcap is the appropriate fit.
This is easily done by checking the size of the tires on your car and also examining the overall look of your car. Ask yourself will the hubcaps work for the look of your car or will they make it stand out in a negative way. You can also try comparing and contrasting how different types of hubcaps look depending on whether or not they are made by the maker of your vehicle or another maker.
Should you see in your examination that one looks more attractive than the other, then you definitely should not hesitate to go with that. In order to stay on the safe side of things it may be a good idea to just stick with hubcaps made by the maker of your car.

Are Hubcaps A Great Way To Improve Your Cars Look?

Are Hubcaps A Great Way To Improve Your Cars Look?

Hubcaps are not looked at by the vast majority of people as being a great way to improve the look of their cars. Some people feel they are only minor accessories to a car that do not need that much consideration. Whenever they need new hubcaps they simply go for the type produced by the makers of their vehicle. Such people never stop to give serious consideration to how getting particular types of hubcaps can work wonders for the overall look of the car.

These people should change that line of thinking right away. If given careful consideration, hubcaps, which also go by the name wheelcovers, are an excellent way to improve the look of a car that might not be so attractive otherwise. I'm pretty sure you have noticed certain cars that have a certain look about them, even though the car as a whole might be rather old. Well the good thing is this; no matter how old your car is getting the right type of hubcap will definitely help to improve the look.

If you have a rather mediocre looking car at the moment, you can easily change it to look more professional or at least make it look better than what it does now. If done correctly the right type of hubcap will help your car to capture people's attention on a much more consistent basis. You may not care about attracting people's attention, but you definitely do not want to attract negative attention because you have an unattractive worn-out looking car.

It's always better to have people admiring your car then looking at it with disdain. So if you are a person who has an older car, and you are not in the market for a new car, then consider getting certain types of hubcaps to improve your cars look. Hubcaps are affordable and you can find them in so many different designs I am sure you'll find something that does the job.

All you would need to do to make certain of this is make sure they fit the wheels on your car appropriately. You do not have to limit yourself to only hubcaps made by the maker of your car either.

Some people would argue otherwise, however with careful selection you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you want added security you can try going for ones made by the maker of your car first in order to see if you see anything you like.

While some of the newest editions of the charger lineup are sporting the newest and largest wheels on the planet the dodge charger was put into iconic status with far less desireable coverings than that of todays standard. Dodge Charger Hubcaps were either just the small covers covering the hub or full wheel covers. Even the biggest and baddest of optioned out Hemi Chargers had Dodge Charger Hubcaps.

The Dodge Charger is an American automobile manufactured by the Dodge division of Chrysler. There have been several different Dodge vehicles, on three different platforms, bearing the Charger nameplate. The name is generally associated with a performance model in the Dodge range; however, it has also adorned a hatchback, a sedan, and a personal luxury coupe.

The three main iterations of the Dodge Charger produced were a mid-sized (B-body) car from 1966 to 1978, a subcompact (L-body) car from 1983 to 1987 and the (LX and LY) full-sized sedan built since 2006.

Hubcaps or Wheel Covers ? What is the difference ?

In order to get a better understanding of why they are there, it helps to know when they actually came to be in the wonderful world of automobiles. The earliest form of were created to cover up the center portion of the wheel where the steel spokes met what is known as the hub. This was what was used up until about 1932 which is when snap on center hub covers or caps came about which were a bit more decorative than what was previously used. These caps were equipped with a special snap feature that allowed them to be pushed and locked into place for a secure fit. This very system is the foundation of what is still used on hubcaps and wheel covers today.

After the 1930's things started to get a little more fancy as hubcaps were now turning into wheel covers, which are made to cover the entire rim of the wheel except for a tiny portion of the rim closest to the rubber tire. We first started to see the more decorative style hubcaps and wheelcovers being introduced in the 1940's, which was about the time when more and more were being made with stainless steel or chrome plated material. If you really wanted to go all out, you purchased a set of wheel covers that had an extra chrome ring on the outer edge in addition to the chrome center hubcaps. These were quite expensive during those times and were typically only purchased by those who could afford them.

So now after reading this it is more clear as to the difference right? Hubcaps were originally just the small piece covering the hub section or portion of the wheel while a Wheel Cover as it was rightfully named covers the whole wheel. Nowadays these are commonly spoke of the same part as most center portion covers are only those that are now called center caps. The days of Hub Caps are more or less gone with the era of centers and trim rings and have evolved into center caps which are usually the center portions of alloy and custom wheels.

Hubcaps Unlimited specializes in both Hubcaps and Wheel Covers and has done so for 30 years.

Check out the all new Traverse Hubcaps

The Chevrolet Traverse is a seven/eight seat full-size crossover SUV built on the GM Lambda platform that underpins the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. It is a successor to both the Uplander minivan and Trailblazer SUV. The Traverse was built in Spring Hill, Tennessee from its introduction until late 2009, when production was moved to the same Delta Township Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan that produces the other Lambda-platform crossovers as a replacement for the Saturn Outlook because of GM phasing out the Saturn brand. Shortly after the production shift to Lansing, the GM badges were removed from the front doors. However, Saturn Outlook production resumed for a short time during early 2010 at the same plant. The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse debuted at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show and arrived at dealerships in October 2008. This vehicle which may not be as popular as the Chevrolet Cruze, Malibu, HHR, or Impala still is a very popular vehicle that does require hubcaps from time to time. You can always find a great deal on Traverse Hubcaps at Hubcaps Unlimited.

Hubcaps are Unlimited at Hubcaps Unlimited

They come in many sizes, colors and materials. Some are fancy and some are plain. Some are new and some are used. You can buy just one or buy a set of four. It’s Hubcaps Unlimited, as Rick Dynek has aptly named his business at 4262 S. Howell Ave.
Dynek says his business of specializing in just hubcaps is doing very well. He stocks about 20,000 hubcaps, making him one of the state’s largest wheel cover outlets.
He can outfit any car or truck with sizes ranging from a small center cover to one that is 24.5 inches in diameter. The new fad is color or graphics although wire wheel covers are still the most popular, Dynek said. Prices at Hubcaps Unlimited range from $5 to $100 for a single cover. Sets can be purchased for as low as $20 and as high as $300. Plastic is now used to make hubaps as well as the usual steel, chrome, and stainless steel. The plastic comes in different grades and some of these covers have some distinct advantages, according to Dynek. “Some of these covers are made of a very durable plastic which has nylon spun right into the material for strength. These cover are much lighter and this affects speed, ” he said.
The business has been at the present location for the last two years although Dynek has been selling hubcaps for eight years. He began the business with stock bought from flea markets and salvage yards. He then worked out of his garage. He now buys stock direct from the manufacturers and imports covers from Europe and Taiwan. He still buys used hubcaps but only resells them when they are cleaned and repaired.
“Rick works long hours fixing up the used caps. He pounds out the dents and replaces broken clips and puts in a lot of time getting them cleaned up,” said Joe Tice, a full time employee. Tice says his job requires him to visit about 70 used car lots every week. He provides the dealers with replacement covers for the cars on their lots.
“We set up the used car lots but we also get people with brand new cars coming in to get something nicer. They may feel the original hubap is too plain,” Dynek said.
Dynek’s wife, Cynthia, also works in the business. “She does all the bookkeeping. She knows just as much as Rick does about the business as far as what fits what and what we have in stock,” Tice said.
Dynek says he goes to all the car shows and swap meets. “There is a lot of nostalgia about hubcaps. People will spend hours talking about something like this,” he said showing off a 1955 Oldsmobile hubcap. “This was a really hot item then,” he said. We ship UPS all over the city and even all over the country. We have had orders from California which were the result of referrals from former customers,” Dynek revealed.
One member of the firm, Frosty, the beagle mix dog, is happy for the daily UPS shipments. It seems the UPS driver is thoughtful enough to carry dog treats on his route. But Frosty will give you a friendly greeting even if you reward him with nothing more than a pat on the head.
Hubcaps Unlimited is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Understanding The Purpose Of Hubcaps

I'm sure you've seen plenty of different types of hubcaps before in your lifetime including those that are white, chrome, plastic, metal, and even those that spin around and around and never stop even when the car isn't moving right? Great. So what exactly are they used for anyway? Are they only there for decoration? Do they serve any purpose at all other than to cover up the rims of the tire?

In order to get a better understanding of why they are there, it helps to know when hubcaps actually came to be in the wonderful world of automobiles. The earliest form of hubcaps were created to cover up the center portion of the wheel where the steel spokes met what is known as the hub.

We first started to see the more decorative style hubcaps and wheel covers being introduced in the 1940's, which was about the time when more and more were being made with stainless steel or chrome plated material. If you really wanted to go all out, you purchased a set of wheel covers that had an extra chrome ring on the outer edge in addition to the chrome center hubcaps. These were quite expensive during those times and were typically only purchased by those who could afford them.

The other trend that came about was the manufacturer stamp or logo which was pressed into the center of the hubcaps, for publicity purposes of course. Perhaps the most notable stamp or logo was that of the Cadillac, which undoubtedly became the most popular stamp of all because of Cadillac's highly regard reputation for being the most luxurious brand of car available on the market.

Since then plastic has become the primary material used in the manufacturing of hubcaps of today's vehicles and can be seen primarily on those vehicles that come with more affordable price tags. The plastic material is much more economical and efficient when it comes to manufacturing so auto makers are able to equip their vehicles with more hubcaps made of plastic for far less cost than if they were to use other materials for the same purpose.

By now the answers to the questions above should be quite apparent and you most likely have figured out that hubcaps were created for the simple purpose of covering up the tire rim and nothing more. That was the purpose for which they were created back then, and it will continue to be the purpose for which they are created in the years to come.
